Hello 2022, goodbye overwhelm


As a business owner, there will be days that flow easily and we feel nothing but happiness and joy, but there will also be days that feel like the world is on our shoulders and are filled with overwhelm and chaos.

If you’re currently drowning in overwhelm, you’re not alone. There is so much that goes into running a business – finances, marketing, staff, legalities, to-do lists. It can seem like you will never get on top of things.

We want to make 2022 the year we overcome the overwhelm. The year we move past feeling like our to-do lists are overtaking our lives. The year we delegate, grow and enjoy our business. We want 2022 to be different for you.

Here are a few tips to help you overcome the business overwhelm;

Reset and recharge every single week

The first suggestion (and most important!) is to schedule time into your calendar every single week for you to rest and recharge. It’s important for you to take a break from the to-do lists, constant questions and running around. It’s important to allow your mind, body and soul time to reset.

Every week, I schedule a four-hour window to myself. During this time, I do whatever feels good to me,  this could be spending time on my personal growth (reading, doing courses ect) or watching Netflix or going on a long walk and out to lunch. How you spend the time doesn’t really matter, as long as you feel joy and fulfillment whilst you’re doing it.

Set clear boundaries

When you’re a business owner, it’s important to set clear boundaries to protect our energy and time. The boundaries may be surrounding employees, clients or yourself. Depending upon who requires the boundaries will determine what boundaries need to be set and why.

One of the most common boundaries business owners struggles with is within the home and work balance. A client sends an email at 10pm at night and suddenly you’re replying and organising meetings until 11.30pm. An employee calls at 6.30pm wanting to have a ‘quick’ chat about their roster and suddenly you’re rescheduling an entire week of shifts until 8pm. It’s a Saturday and you think you can squeeze a couple phone calls in while watching your son’s soccer game…

We’ve all been there and there’s no need to feel guilty! What you (and we all) need is clear boundaries.

Setting clear boundaries can be as simple as leaving your work phone and laptop at the office. It could be emailing all of your clients tomorrow and stating you are only available during 9am – 5pm and any calls or emails outside of these times will be responded too within one business day. It could be explaining to your employees that rosters will be set two weeks in advance and are unable to be changed without a medical certificate.

Boundaries will not only help us, but also our clients, employees, families and friends.

Listen to your body

I’m going to let you in on a little secret… Our bodies give us the answers to everything.

The headaches. The fatigue. The aches and pains. The cramps. The sore throat. Anything and everything is happening for a reason.

Whenever your body tells you something, pay attention. Do you need to eat healthier? Do you need more water? Do you need a day to rest? Do you need to see your doctor?


Sometimes the simplest answer is the one we need most. If you’re drowning in work and a to-do list then it may be time to outsource.

You can outsource and delegate the tasks you don’t like doing and you’re not any good at to other people. You can make your work exciting and fulfilling again if you pass your to-do list off to somebody else.
